Chris Buescher's Chase hopes take early hit at Michigan

Pocono winner Chris Buescher encountered major trouble early in Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway, as his Front Row Motorsports Ford appeared to be running on just seven cylinders.

The maladies began on Lap 4 of the 200-laps race, when Buescher's powerplant was clearly off-song and he quickly fell through the field.

On Lap 21, NASCAR threw a competition caution and under yellow, Buescher's crew tried to fix the problem. But he got stuck on pit road and went down a lap, and then went down another lap once the track went green.

He was scored in 40th and last place on Lap 27.

Buescher came into the race 30th in points, just 13 points ahead of David Ragan. Buescher needs to stay in the top 30 if he wants to qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which begins in three weeks.
