Chase for the Sprint Cup standings shuffle again after Indy
With the Crown Royal presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the books, the grid for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup is coming into sharper focus.
Following Kyle Busch's dominating victory in Sunday's race, the 20th of 26 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular season, here's how the Chase grid looks right now.
• Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch have four victories each to lead the series in wins.
• Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards have two wins each.
• Drivers with a single victory apiece are Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr. and Tony Stewart.
The drivers with victories make up the top 11 seeds of the 16 spots in the Chase.
Following the Brickyard race, here are the five winless drivers currently in position to make the Chase:
• Chase Elliott leads all winless drivers with 525 points.
• Austin Dillon is next with 520.
• Ryan Newman has 507.
• Jamie McMurray has 496.
• With a strong run at the Brickyard, Kyle Larson now has 472 points and is in the final Chase transfer spot for now.
Just outside the Chase cutoff is Kasey Kahne, who is 10 points in arrears of Larson.
And after missing his second consecutive race because of concussion symptoms, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is now 11 points outside the Chase cutoff. Earnhardt, who will also sit out next week's race in Pocono, likely will need to win one of the final five Cup regular season races to make the Chase.
