Caution car speeds rasied at all 4 road course

NASCAR increased the caution car speed by 5 mph Friday at all four sanctioned road course tracks.

The pit road speeds have also been increased by 5 mph at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen International.

The Sprint Cup Series races this weekend on the road course at Infineon, and the Nationwide Series is at Road America. The caution car speed will be 45 mph at both tracks. The pit road speed is 40 mph at Infineon, and 35 mph at Road America.

The increased speeds are intended to help the engine strain caused by elevation changes.

''With cars going uphill and downhill, plus the way teams have developed their cars and gear ratios, the speeds were too slow,'' said John Darby, the Sprint Cup Series director. ''Engines were overheating, especially with extended caution periods.''
