Bayne to drive for RFR in Nationwide
Trevor Bayne will drive in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Roush Fenway Racing, beginning this weekend at Kansas Speedway.
Bayne, 19, parted ways with Diamond Waltrip Racing earlier this week. He is seventh in the series standings this year.
"I'm really, really excited for this opportunity to drive again," Bayne said. "I'm very grateful to (Diamond Waltrip co-owners) Gary and Blake Bechtel for giving me an opportunity to show what I can do. God has provided me with another opportunity and it just keeps getting better and better."
At Kansas this weekend, he will drive the Roush Fenway No. 17 Ford and work with crew chief Chad Norris.
"Never in a million years did I think I'd be involved in an organization with the history of Roush Fenway Racing, that has won so many races and championships," Bayne said. "It's so cool to be involved with an organization that still believes in developing drivers. I see the opportunity that Ricky Stenhouse and Colin Braun have been given and I can't wait to get started."
The car number and sponsor for future races have yet to be determined, but Bayne will finish the season with Roush Fenway.
"We are pleased to be able to sign a driver of both Trevor’s caliber and character,” said team owner Jack Roush. “Trevor has exhibited a distinctive ability to run fast, up front and compete side-by-side with veteran drivers in a relatively short amount of time. We feel that he possesses all of the tools necessary to grow into a top-level driver and we look forward to working with him to hone his skills as we move forward down the road.”
Bayne has 43 Nationwide starts in his career, with 12 top-10 finishes, five of them top fives. He has won four pole positions.
