5 drivers who can upset the Kyle Busch party by winning at Bristol

Published Apr. 13, 2016 6:00 p.m. ET

Kyle Busch has been the driver to beat all season, and this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway will be no different.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has five victories at the Tennessee short track and an average finish of 11.95, which is second among all active drivers -- only behind Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s average of 11.17.

Busch will be searching for his third consecutive Sprint Cup win of the year at Bristol on Sunday afternoon, but here are five drivers who can stop that from becoming a reality.

DALE EARNHARDT JR. -- Fresh off a second-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, Earnhardt Jr. is riding a wave of momentum. Junior has an average finish of 12.84 at Bristol, which is fourth among active drivers. After the race, the driver of the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet said he and the team are working hard to get a win. That hard work might pay off on Sunday.

CARL EDWARDS -- After the first seven races of the season, Busch's teammate has been strong -- collecting three top fives and six top-10 finishes so far. Edwards has 3 victories at Bristol, with the last win coming in the 2014 spring race. Edwards hasn't won since last year's Southern 500 and was only a few inches short of victory at Phoenix International Raceway earlier this season, so you know he's hungry for a win.

JIMMIE JOHNSON -- You can count on the six-time champ to always be a threat for the win at Bristol. Johnson only has one victory at the short track, but he finished second in this race last season, and fourth in the fall. Busch snapped Johnson's three-race winning streak at Texas last weekend, but "Six-Time" will be looking to stop Rowdy's recent dominance.

JOEY LOGANO -- The driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford is hit or miss at Bristol, with an average finish of 18.64. But Logano has won the night race the past two seasons, so he knows how to make his way to Victory Lane there.

MATT KENSETH -- There's no good way to say it. Kenseth has had some pretty bad luck so far. The results haven't matched the performances throughout each race. Kenseth has four wins at Bristol, with an average finish of 12.78 -- third among active drivers. He drove the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to victory in the spring race last season, and he's more than capable of doing it again on Sunday.
