As our Daytona 500 hour-by-hour countdown leading up to the 59th running of the Great American Race (Feb. 26, 2 p.m. ET on FOX), we look back at the inaugural Daytona 500 in 1959.
In a photo finish between Lee Petty and Johnny Beauchamp, NASCAR declared Beauchamp the champion.
It took nearly three days to reverse the decision, as photos clearly showed that Petty had in fact won by less than a yard.
