Jari-Matti Latvala had a 15-second lead in Stage 14 at this weekend’s Rally Argentina, and was looking for his second consecutive victory in the 2016 WRC season.

However, that’s when disaster struck Latvala in his Volkswagen Polo R, as a suspension failure sent his car into a series of flips. Fortunately, he and Miikka Anttila were able to walk out OK.

"I was in a very fast section where there was a bit of bedrock on the road,” Latvala told WRC.com. “When we went over the bedrock suddenly the front-right top-mount broke and the damper came through the bonnet.

"At that moment I couldn't steer the car anymore, we went into a bank and we rolled."

Another driver who flipped out of the lead in Argentina this weekend was WRC 2 driver Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari driving a Skoda Fabia R5. Though he was able to get back on track, he lost the lead to Nicolas Fuchs.

“We rolled at a left corner and it took a long time to get the car back on the road,” Al-Kuwari told WRC.com. “We changed the rear right tire which was punctured and then lost more time driving to the finish because we had only two-wheel drive.”
