Twelve wild rides of 2014: Driver takes flight in first Formula E race
Editor's note: From December 13 to December 24, FOX Sports will be counting down the 12 craziest rides caught on video in 2014.
The inaugural Formula E race featured a shocking finish involving Nico Prost - son of four-time Formula One champion Alain Prost - and ex-Formula One driver Nick Heidfeld.
Prost dominated the race until the final lap when Heidfeld closed the gap, setting up a head-to-head battle. Heidfeld immediately went on the attack, trying to pass the Frenchman on the inside of the final corner. Prost went to defend and collided with his rival, causing Heidfeld to slide sideways across the kerb and roll into the barrier before landing upside down.
Heidfeld climbed from the wreckage and confronted Prost, with both drivers failing to take the blame.
"I think the TV pictures show quite clearly I was alongside him," said Heidfeld. "There was nothing I could do. He drove into me. I'm not mad at him. Things like this happen. I don't think it's a lack of experience - he did a great job all the weekend and he was leading the race. He didn't expect me to make a move there. He thought it was my mistake. Two drivers, two different opinions. Maybe he'll change his mind when he watches the TV, maybe not."
Indeed Prost watched the tape and admitted fault on Twitter.
The most important thing is that my friend @NickHeidfeld is ok, sorry again Nick, you know I would never do something like this...
