Steve Torrence, Ron Capps and Greg Anderson hold the points leads in their respective classes after winning the opening round of the season at Pomona.

In Top Fuel, top qualifier Steve Torrence beat Steve Faria, Morgan Lucas, Richie Crampton and then Doug Kalitta in the finals to take the victory. Torrence ran a 3.735s ET in the final at 326.48 mph, and holds a 32-point lead over Kalitta after the opening round.

As it was in Top Fuel, Pro Stock also came down to a final between the top two qualifiers – only this time they were teammates. Top qualifier Greg Anderson squared off against his KB Racing teammate Jason Line – who won the Winternationals in 2015 – and took the victory with a holeshot win, running an ET of 6.617s at 207.85 mph.
