Tire trouble at British Grand Prix

The safety car came out on lap 15 of the British Grand Prix on Sunday after rear left tires burst on three separate cars, including those of race leader Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

Hamilton was leading and starting to pull away on the eighth lap when his tire exploded and he was forced to pit before resuming.

Two laps later, Massa had the same problem and he spun out. Then on lap 15, Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne also lost his rear tire, with the rubber exploding across the track. That brought out the safety car until lap 22 when normal racing resumed.

Red Bull told race leader Sebastian Vettel over the radio it was unclear if the problems were linked to supplier Pirelli or the curbs at Silverstone.
