'The Big One' at Bowman Gray is every bit as insane as you'd expect
Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. embraces its nickname “The Madhouse.”
The grandstands are usually packed each weekend, as fans come to see some good racing and - uh - the occasional race turned demolition derby or punch-up.
And when the track is just a quarter-mile in length with a narrow racing groove, a wreck is never too far away.
However, last weekend in the first Sportsman Division race of the night, Chris Weaver captured a wreck that will put all the others to shame, as - in a way - all 10 cars on track were involved in the same incident (although two of those got through with just minor scratches).
The crash started on a late restart when the No. 7 of Dylan Ward got into the back of the race-leading No. 81 of Zack Clifton, turning Clifton sideways across the track. The drivers behind had nowhere to go and, given that they were eager to get back on the gas as the race restarted, they all plowed into the back of each other.
Things got scary when the No. 07 of Kevin Neal was pushed up in the air by the No. 0 of Michael Adams, whose roof was dislodged in the incident.
Adams was put on a stretcher but reportedly raced again later on in the evening.
Meanwhile, Clifton showed Ward his displeasure by jumping on the hood of the No. 7 car. We’re not sure how much of a difference that made though… both cars were already destroyed.
Just another day at Bowman Gray.
