Stoner earns MotoGP pole

Casey Stoner of Australia won the pole position for Sunday's MotoGP Japan Grand Prix.

The Repsol Honda rider set a time of 1 minute, 45.267 seconds in Saturday's qualifying at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, 0.256 seconds faster than 2010 world champion Jorge Lorenzo of Spain.

Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso was third with a time of 1:45.791.

Stoner, who won here last year, set a record for the MotoGP era with his 10th pole of the season.
