The Red Hook Criterium bicycle race got off a dramatic start in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday night, when the pace-setting motorcycle stalled in front of the field, triggering a pileup.
While the front half of the field makes it through the narrow funnel without incident, the second half wasn’t so lucky. Once one went down, the rest of the field had nowhere to go and very little visibility with which to see the barricade ahead of them.
road.cc reports that a few riders were hospitalized with injuries, but none were serious. Spanish rider Colin Strickland won the event, reports Metro.
