The third and final Free Practice session for the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Silverstone was cut short early due to sleet and snow that made for treacherous conditions.
No cars set any flying laps throughout the session, which saw a total of just 12 minutes of green flag running, although several cars did carry out installation laps, while many teams took the opportunity to practice driver changes in the garages.
Under rain and sleet, Anthony Davidson had an off at Chapel early in the session, and his No. 5 Toyota TS050 Hybrid had to be recovered from the gravel trap.
As sleet turned to snow, a second red flag came out for a further 15 minutes before the session was ultimately ended 25 minutes early.
The series has a dedicated weather forecasting team present at the circuit, through Meteo France. Snow was expected to remain until 10:30 a.m. local time, with qualifying scheduled for 11:50 a.m. The field was able to get qualifying in, with Audi sweeping the front row.
