Formula One trucks were set to face stronger border control shakedowns after officials made a sizable drugs and weapons bust on a superbike team, The (London) Sunday Telegraph reported Sunday.

UK Border Agency (UKBA) officials allegedly found 18 pounds of cocaine, 157 pounds of amphetamine tablets and more than 220 pounds of cannabis aboard the Kawasaki Racing Team trucks last month.

A handgun and 35 rounds of ammunition were also discovered, without any apparent attempt at concealment by the team, at the port in Dover, southeastern England. The trucks had arrived by road and ferry from Italy.

Four technicians from the British-based Paul Bird Motorsport were arrested on suspicion of firearms offenses and importing controlled drugs. They were released on bail.

A UKBA source told the newspaper its "intelligence analysts will be looking much more closely" at motorsports deliveries, including F1, because of the bust.

"They have been pulled over very rarely and that will now change," the source said.
