Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone is considering "making rain" to spice up the championship, The (Sydney) Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
In an interview for the F1 website, Ecclestone floated the idea of wetting tracks in the middle of races to boost the sport's excitement and appeal.
Ecclestone said avoiding start-to-finish processions like those often seen on dry tracks could be achieved by making tracks "artificially wet."
"You have a completely different picture when it is wet," the 80-year-old said. "We always had the most exciting races in the wet so let's think of making rain."
Ecclestone said it would be easy to install a rain-making system at some tracks and switch it on in the closing stages of a race.
"Why not let it 'rain' in the middle of a race? For 20 minutes or the last 10 laps?" he said. "Suspense would be guaranteed and it would be the same for all."
