Off-road racer killed in plane crash

Professional off-road racer Rick Huseman, his brother and a pilot were killed Sunday afternoon when their small plane crashed just east of Barstow, Calif., KABC-TV reported.

The California Highway Patrol found the wreckage around 2:30pm, after receiving a call about 1:45pm regarding a plane crash near Lake Dolores, Calif., about 140 miles (225km) northeast of Los Angeles.

A statement on Huseman's racing team website said, "Tragically, Rick and his brother, Jeff, passed away today in a plane crash. We will post funeral arrangements as soon as they are available. Please keep ... the Huseman family in your prayers."

Born in 1973, Huseman was presented the 2010 DirtSports Magazine Driver of the Year Award, according to his Facebook page.

Police did not reveal the name of the pilot.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
