Formula 3 race canceled due to bad driving
Fresh off of Saturday’s race 2 at Monza, which saw two separate incidents with cars barrel-rolling out of the race, the FIA Formula 3 field came back for more of the same in its third race of the weekend on Sunday.
However, the officials were – quite rightly – having none of it, and race director Nils Wittich called the race before the completion of Lap 9 of 19, at which point the field was already under its second Safety Car period of the race.
According to AutoSport, the drivers were informed that such an action might be undertaken during a meeting on Saturday night. However, the original plans were for the Safety Car to stay out until the race made 75 percent distance and the race could be called official, yet due to the two early Safety Car periods in the actual race, the 75 percent mark couldn’t be met during the 35-minute time allotment and so the race was abandoned.
