Could Emerson Fittipaldi be preparing to make a return to driving?

The Brazilian racing legend has been added to the FIA drivers’ rating list, which was updated on Thursday, with the two-time Formula One World Champion and Indianapolis 500 winner being graded as a Bronze.

Fittipaldi, 67, is the promoter of the FIA World Endurance Championship round at Interlagos, an event that has previously attracted Brazilian drivers and support.

While there’s been no formal indiction “Emmo” could be preparing for a comeback in this year’s FIA WEC season finale, the FIA typically only classifies new drivers at their specific request.

Having enjoyed an illustrious career, that’s also included the 1989 CART Championship, Fittipaldi hasn’t been behind the wheel of a race car in professional competition in more than five years.

He took part in the Brazilian GT3 Championship in 2008 with his brother Wilson, driving a Porsche 997 GT3. Prior to that, Fittipaldi made a surprise outing in the Grand Prix Masters event at Kyalami.
