F1 driver runs over engineer in pit lane
A radio engineer with Spanish Formula One team HRT is being treated for injuries after he was run over by driver Sakon Yamamoto's car at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Yamamoto's rear wheel ran over the person's leg, HRT driver Bruno Senna said.
An ambulance entered the pit lane during the 53-lap race to attend to the engineer - who has not been named - before taking him to the medical center.
"First aid was immediately (given) on the spot and he was taken to hospital for further checkup," team principal Colin Kolles said. "He remained conscious and was talking to the doctor."
Rookie team HRT was fined $20,000 by governing body FIA for releasing Yamamoto from pit lane prematurely. The Japanese driver went on to finish 19th.
"I asked if he was OK and I was told that he was not badly injured," Yamamoto said. "I kept concentrating during the race and I tried to do the best for the team and we were able to finish another race, so this is good."
