Corner worker violates IndyCar protocol by pushing Chaves
AVONDALE, La. (AP) IndyCar officials say a local corner worker at the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana provided ''unauthorized assistance'' when he pushed Gabby Chaves' car off of rain soaked grass and back onto the track during Sunday's race.
Series spokesman Mike Kitchel says IndyCar ''has addressed the concern with the individual.''
Kitchel says IndyCar won't provide the name of the worker and did not specify whether there were any consequences as far as participating in future races.
The corner worker could be seen helping Chaves safely rejoin the race while it was still under a green flag.
The worker's actions did not appear to significantly affect the outcome of the race, which saw numerous caution periods as drivers repeatedly lost control on wet spots.
Chavez finished 15th.
