It’s one of the most frightening sights in all of motor racing: A car stalled on the grid in a standing-start race.

The above video by CrashRacing2 demonstrates why, as the No. 97 Antonelli Motor Sport car of Joao Vieira stalls and sits helplessly on the grid as the field flies by in Sunday morning’s Formula 4 Italian Championship race at the Mugello Circuit in Italy.

Eventually, Vieira is collected by the No. 6 Vincenzo Sospiri Racing machine of Jaden Conwright and then the No. 36 GSK Grand Prix machine of Mariano Lavigna. The No. 19 Jenzer Motorsport car of Giacomo Bianchi was also involved.

Fortunately, there were no injuries, but many cars were destroyed, with the entire rear half of Vieira’s car being ripped off. The race was red flagged, restarted, and won by Diegi Motorsport’s Giuliano Raucci.
