SHANGHAI (AP) McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has been provisionally cleared by doctors to take part in this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix after fracturing a rib in a crash at the season-opening race in Australia.

FIA doctors say the Spanish driver will have to undergo further medical tests after Friday's first practice to ensure he's fit enough to take part in the rest of the weekend.

Alonso was forced to skip the Bahrain Grand Prix two weeks ago, but says he is no longer in pain and is feeling physically 100 percent.

Alonso rammed into the back of Esteban Gutierrez's car as the Mexican driver was breaking to make a corner at the Australian GP, causing his McLaren to hit the concrete barrier and flip over twice.
