Andretti Autosport says 7-Eleven is dropping its primary sponsorship of Tony Kanaan's car in the Indy Racing League, and that the veteran driver is free to talk with other teams.
Kanaan's team hopes to keep him for the 2011 season, said Andretti Autosport senior vice president John Lopes. Kanaan finished sixth in this season's IndyCar standings.
''I will keep fighting as I always did,'' Kanaan said on Twitter. ''Setbacks and difficult times make me stronger.''
Lopes said the Andretti team has given Kanaan ''permission to talk with other IndyCar team owners to explore what other alternatives might be available at this time.''

Lopes added that 7-Eleven will continue being an associate sponsor of Danica Patrick's entry in the IndyCar series.
