Sounder's Rosales wins MLS NOTY award
Major League Soccer awarded Seattle Sounders midfielder Mauro Rosales the 2011 MLS Newcomer of the Year.
Rosales, 30, joined the Sounders from famed Argentine club River Plate in 2011. MLS reported that 80 players joined the American league this season, including 11 new Designated Players, 32 players from different countries, and 35 players with international experience.
Considered by many as one of the top playmakers in the league, Rosales finished the 2011 campaign with five goals and 13 assists in 26 appearances. The Sounders concluded the season with 56 goals, an average of 1.65 goals per game.
“Mauro was a splendid addition to our team,” said Sounders coach Sigi Schmid. “His creativity, enthusiasm and quality added greatly to our team success in 2011. He is a deserving winner of this award.”
