The Seattle Sounders and designated player Christian Tiffert have agreed to part ways after the sides agreed to a buyout.
Seattle announced the expected roster move just hours before its season opener against Montreal on Saturday. The move opens a designated player spot on Seattle's roster and the Sounders have been in talks with Spanish club Levante about acquiring striker Obafemi Martins.
Tiffert played just one half of a season in Seattle. He joined the Sounders in the middle of the 2012 season and made 12 appearances, but found himself in a wash of talented midfielders on Seattle's roster with the emergence of Mario Martinez, the return to full health of Steve Zakuani and the recent acquisition of Shalrie Joseph.
