U.S. Soccer suspended Sporting Kansas City midfielder Birahim Diop one match for violent conduct Friday, clearing up a case of mistaken identity in which one of Diop's teammates was originally disciplined.

A red card was initially issued to Kansas City defender Aurelien Collin for the infraction in the 75th minute of a match against New England last Saturday. After reviewing video, U.S. Soccer determined Diop committed the foul and rescinded the red card to Collin.

Diop will miss Saturday's match at the New York Red Bulls.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee did not have jurisdiction in the case because FIFA's Disciplinary Code required that Diop be issued the red card and suspended.
