Chivas USA midfielder Carlos Alvarez was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount by the MLS on Thursday for `violent conduct' during a game last weekend.

Alvarez was punished for kicking the ball Peterson Joseph's head while the Sporting Kansas City player lay on the ground in the 73rd minute of Chivas' 4-0 loss on Sunday.

Alvarez will miss games against Portland this Sunday and against Real Salt Lake on May 19.

The MLS' disciplinary committee also fined Philadelphia coach John Hackworth and Portland coach Caleb Porter undisclosed amounts for criticizing officials.
