Thiago Ribeiro scored two goals and set up another to lead Cruzeiro of Brazil to a 4-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls in a friendly on Friday night.

Welington Paulista also had a goal and an assist, while Claudio Cacapa tallied the other goal for Cruzeiro, which scored four times in the opening 51 minutes.

Juan Pablo Angel and Conor Chinn tallied for the Red Bulls, who were playing for the first time since June 5.

Angel tied the match in the 32nd minute. Joel Lindpere sent an in-swinging corner kick toward the back post that defender Chris Albright headed across the face of the goal. Angel guided the ball into the vacant net.

Cruzeiro retook the lead three minutes later when Paulista beat defender Mike Petke in the box and slid a shot underneath a sprawling Coundoul.

Cacapa stretched the lead to 3-1 in the 46th minute, heading a free kick by Ribeiro past substitute goalkeeper Greg Sutton.

Ribeiro made it 4-1 five minutes later, taking a perfect through ball from Paulista and easily beating Sutton.

Chinn closed out the scoring in the 76th minute, putting a John Wolyniec pass into an open net.
