Yankees take 3 starters, 8 relievers vs. Tigers

The Yankees have picked a roster with three starting pitchers and eight relievers for their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Tigers.

CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia are the only starting pitchers on the 25-man roster announced Friday. That means Sabathia would start a fourth game, if it's needed, on three days' rest Tuesday.

Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett, starters during the regular season, are among eight relievers on the Yankees roster. Boone Logan is the only lefty reliever.

Pitchers Bartolo Colon, Hector Noesi and Raul Valdes, and catcher Austin Romine were not picked.
