Yankees RHP Burnett leaves game with cuts on hand

Published Jul. 17, 2010 7:13 p.m. ET

A.J. Burnett has been removed from the New York Yankees' game against Tampa Bay in the third inning because of cuts on his pitching hand.

Burnett hit Evan Longoria with a pitch and gave up an RBI single to Carlos Pena to start the third. Yankees manager Joe Girardi and a trainer came out to check on Burnett, who was lifted for Dustin Moseley. New York had Moseley start warming up during the bottom of the second, but he quickly sat down.

It was unclear how Burnett cut his right hand.

Burnett allowed four runs on four hits and hit two batters with pitches in two-plus innings, his shortest outing this season. He gave up a two-run homer to Reid Brignac in the second.
