Yankees reinstate Beltran from DL, starts vs A's

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Yankees have reinstated Carlos Beltran from the 15-day disabled list and put him into the starting lineup against Oakland.

Beltran was batting fifth as the designated hitter Thursday. Infielder Scott Sizemore was designated for assignment.

The switch-hitting Beltran was put on the DL on May 15 because of pain related to a bone spur in his right elbow.

Beltran says he feels fine, but can feel a ''hard stretch'' in the affected area. He says he expects to have surgery after the season to remove a loose chip.

The All-Star outfielder says he hasn't thrown since the injury. Manager Joe Girardi says he's not sure when Beltran will play the outfield again.

Beltran is hitting .234 with five home runs and 15 RBIs this season.

Sizemore hit .313 with four RBIs in six games for the Yankees. He also took part in a triple play.
