Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury sits out vs. Mets with sore hip

NEW YORK (AP) Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is out of the lineup for the Subway Series finale against the New York Mets because of a sore hip.

Ellsbury made a sliding catch in the fourth inning of Saturday's game and was pulled before the eighth with tightness in his right hip. He was going to try to play Sunday night, but manager Joe Girardi decided a day off was best.

Girardi says he planned to rest Ellsbury one of the next few days anyway, so it seemed ''kind of silly'' for Ellsbury to push it. Girardi says Ellsbury felt better Sunday and received treatment, and perhaps he'll be available Monday night against Tampa Bay.
