Wong gone: Second baseman makes Cards history with home runs
The St. Louis Cardinals have had some tremendous second basemen in their long history from Rogers Hornsby to Tommy Herr.
Kelton Wong might not fit into the all-time greats category for the position just yet, but he has accomplished something no other Cardinals second baseman has since Frankie Frisch nearly 90 years ago, according to Major League Baseball -- hitting double-digit home runs in consecutive seasons.
Wong hit his 11th home run of the season Monday night against the Reds, a grand slam in the fourth inning of the St. Louis' 4-1 win. He's one shy of his home run total from last season while having tied his RBI total from 2014 with 42.
With the Cards playing their 100th game of the season Tuesday night, Wong, a 24-year-old native of Hawaii, is likely to set a career high for homers and RBI.
