OXON HILL, Md. (AP) All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos and the Tampa Bay Rays were closing in Tuesday night on a two-year contract.
The agreement was not yet complete and would be subject to a physical, agent Wil Polidor said. The deal, first reported by Fox, would be worth about $12.5 million.
Ramos, 29, hit .309 with a career-high 22 home runs and 80 RBIs before tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament on Sept. 25 when he landed awkwardly while catching a relay throw from Ryan Zimmerman. Ramos had a pair of operations on the knee in 2012 to repair a torn ACL and medial collateral ligament.
