Wild card races: What's left?

AMERICAN LEAGUE

BOSTON RED SOX (90-71)

The Red Sox beat the Orioles, 8-7, on Tuesday and remain in a tie with the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL wild card with one game to play. If the Red Sox and Rays both win, or both lose, on Wednesday, they will play a play-in game on Thursday in St. Petersburg, Fla., at 4:07 p.m. ET, with the winner going to the postseason. If the Red Sox win Wednesday and the Rays lose, the Red Sox win the wild card and go to the postseason.

The Sox finish the season vs. the cellar-dwelling Orioles in Baltimore on Wednesday. Sox lefty Jon Lester (15-9, 3.49) faces O's righty Alfredo Simon (4-9, 4.85).

TAMPA BAY RAYS (90-71)

The Rays beat the Yankees, 5-3, on Tuesday to remain knotted up with the Red Sox in the AL wild card with one game to play. If the Rays and Red Sox both win, or both lose, on Wednesday, they will play a play-in game on Thursday, with the winner going to the postseason. If the Rays win Wednesday and the Red Sox lose, the Rays win the wild card and go to the postseason.

The Rays finish the season vs. the AL East champion Yankees on Wednesday. Ace David Price (12-13, 3.35) will go for the Rays, while the Yanks have not announced their starter.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

ATLANTA BRAVES (89-72)

The Braves lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1, on Tuesday and are now tied with the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL wild-card race. If the Braves and Cardinals both win, or both lose, on Wednesday, they will play a play-in game on Thursday, with the winner going to the postseason. If the Braves win Wednesday and the Cards lose, the Braves win the wild card and go to the postseason.

The Braves finish the season vs. the NL East champion Phillies Wednesday. Braves righty Tim Hudson (16-10, 3.23) faces Phils righty Joe Blanton (1-2, 5.03).

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (89-72)

The Cardinals beat the Houston Astros 13-6 on Tuesday to move into a tie with the Braves in the NL wild card. If the Cardinals and Braves both win, or both lose, on Wednesday, they will play a play-in game on Thursday in St. Louis at 8:07 p.m. ET, with the winner going to the postseason. If the Cards win Wednesday and the Braves lose, the Cards win the wild card and go to the postseason.

The Cards finish with one more vs. the cellar-dwelling Astros on Wednesday. Cards ace Chris Carpenter (10-9, 3.59) faces Astros righty Brett Myers (7-13, 4.31).
