Watch Kyle Lohse tackle Ryan Howard while running out a hit
Wednesday night was a strange night for Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse, not just because he notched three hits but also because of the bizarre series of events that occurred on his last one.
With the Brewers leading the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-2, in the top of the sixth, Lohse, who already had two hits on the night, led off the inning by aggressively hacking at the first pitch he saw.
Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez tracked the ball down to his left and his thrown to first base would've been in time to get Lohse out had he followed the usual baserunning approach of pitchers.
Instead, Lohse sprinted down the line to beat out the hit, which he did, but he had to quickly put on the brakes to avoid slamming into Howard, who was right in the base path after stretching for Hernandez's off-target throw.
To avoid injury to both players, Lohse extended his arms and in a flash ended up on top of Howard after the Phillies first baseman fell upon impact with Lohse.

"That's gonna make a really funny picture," Brewers play-by-play announcer Brian Anderson said of the play.
The two players were all smiles after the incident and shared a laugh after Howard said, "Well, this is awkward."
Equally as bizarre were Lohse's three hits on the night, a feat he's only achieved on one other occasion in his 15-year MLB career.
In 498 career at-bats, Lohse has 75 hits (.151 batting average), which means he averages a hit every 6.6 at-bats.
As funky as Lohse's night was, he got his second straight win despite giving up four earned runs in consecutive starts.
