Umpire CB Bucknor leaves after he's hit by pitch

Published Jul. 12, 2013 11:51 p.m. ET

Plate umpire CB Bucknor has left the game between the Oakland Athletics and Boston Red Sox after getting hit with a pitch on the side of his face mask.

With no outs in the second inning Friday night, Oakland starter Jarrod Parker's pitch grazed batter Daniel Nava and hit the right side of Bucknor's mask. The pitch was clocked at 92 mph.

Bucknor went down on one knee and winced in pain. Trainers attended to Bucknor for about 2 minutes before he walked off the field under his own power. There was no immediate announcement on his status.

Second base umpire and crew chief Bill Miller replaced Bucknor behind the plate and the game resumed with three umpires.
