Uggla extends hitting streak to 30

Dan Uggla of the Atlanta Braves extended his hitting streak to 30 games with a single in the fifth inning against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night.

Uggla's streak ties Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the longest of the season and is the third-longest in franchise history.

Facing Clay Hensley, Uggla hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield that was fielded by shortstop Emilio Bonifacio, but Uggla easily beat the throw.

Uggla was batting .173 when his streak began, the lowest average for any hitter with more than 10 at-bats at the start of a 30-game streak since at least 1918, according to STATS, Inc.
