UCLA to honor Ueberroth with Wooden Award

Former baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth will be given the John Wooden Global Leadership Award next week by UCLA's Anderson School of Management.

Ueberroth was baseball commissioner from 1984-89 after heading the organizing committee of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which wound up with a $238 million surplus. Now 73, Ueberroth served as chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 2004-08, chairs the Contrarian Group investment company and is co-owner of the company that operates the Pebble Beach Golf Course in California.

The award, named after the former UCLA basketball coach, will be presented Monday at a dinner. The proceeds of the dinner fund fellowships.
