Twins' Span, Gardenhire ejected vs Yankees

Published Apr. 17, 2012 9:22 p.m. ET

Minnesota Twins center fielder Denard Span and manager Ron Gardenhire were ejected in the third inning of Tuesday night's game against the New York Yankees.

With a runner on first and one out, Span took a called strike from CC Sabathia on a pitch that appeared to be inside. Span stepped behind the batter's box and appeared to exchange words with plate umpire Greg Gibson. When Span got in the batter's box, he appeared to keep talking and was tossed.

Gardenhire then came out of the dugout and, after a brief argument, also was ejected.

It was the 61st ejection for Gardenhire and the second for Span.
