Twins' Mauer back to active roster

Published Jul. 29, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Twins have reinstated catcher Joe Mauer from the restricted list after a six-game absence for the birth of his twin daughters.

The move was made on Monday. The Twins start a homestand on Tuesday against Kansas City, and the All-Star is expected to be back in the lineup to face the Royals.

Mauer spent the maximum three days on the paternity list. He was then transferred to the restricted list, which doesn't require teams to pay players on leave. To make room for Mauer, catcher Drew Butera was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins also announced that outfielder Wilkin Ramirez began a rehabilitation assignment with their Gulf Coast League affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla. Ramirez hasn't played in the majors since late May because of post-concussion problems.
