Twins guest coaches for spring: Aguilera, Hawkins, Hunter
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Twins will have three new guest instructors at spring training, former players Rick Aguilera, LaTroy Hawkins and Torii Hunter.
General manager Terry Ryan said Friday that Hawkins will arrive when camp opens Feb. 21, Hunter will start Feb. 26 and Aguilera will arrive March 10. Ryan reached out to each of them. Hall of Famer Rod Carew is also planning to return to work with players in Fort Myers, Florida, assuming his health allows. Carew had a massive heart attack in September and is on a transplant list.
The Twins have long had a tradition of inviting retired players to assist the coaches in spring training. Hawkins and Hunter each made 2015 their final season on the field in the major leagues. Aguilera last pitched in 2000.
