Twins Deduno pulled after 2 innings with eye issue

Published Sep. 26, 2012 3:43 p.m. ET

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Samuel Deduno has left the game against the New York Yankees because of irritation in his left eye.

Deduno was removed with two outs in the second inning after walking Eric Chavez on Wednesday afternoon. Manager Ron Gardenhire and assistant athletic trainer Dave Pruemer came out to the mound for a long discussion with Deduno before replacing him with Brian Duensing.

Deduno didn't allow a hit or a run. He walked two and struck out two.

Deduno was throwing on three days of rest after finishing only 2 1-3 innings in his previous start at Detroit. The right-hander completed just four innings in the turn before that.
