Trout hits 4th HR for Angels, Pederson hits 5th for Dodgers

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Mike Trout hit his fourth spring homer for the Los Angeles Angels while rookie Joc Pederson hit his fifth home run that helped the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-4 win Saturday.

Trout's homer off reliever Dustin McGowan carried to the deepest part of the berm in left-center field. Erick Aybar hit his first spring homer, connecting against Dodgers starter David Huff.

Pederson and Alex Guerrero homered off Angels starter Matt Shoemaker. Guerrero was robbed of an extra-base hit on a brilliant, leaping catch by Trout against the center-field wall.

Shoemaker, 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 2014, was hit hard early and gave up five hits and four earned runs in six innings.

''As the game went on, he got better,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. ''He got to where he needed to be.''

Huff went 3 1-3 innings and allowed six hits and a run.

STARTING TIME

The Angels have rotation hopeful Nick Tropeano set to start Monday vs. Seattle in Peoria. Scioscia said Hector Santiago would again pitch a minor league game.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Angels RHP Garrett Richards threw five shutout innings in a minor league game vs. Colorado. He allowed one hit with five strikeouts and has yet to give up a run in two minor league stints.

Richards (13-4, 2.61 ERA) is gearing for a mid-April return to the Angels. He suffered a left patellar tendon tear that required surgery last August that put an end to his breakthrough season. He sounded very enthused about his latest start and his rehab overall.

''You have no idea,'' Richards said. ''When you get sidelined like this for this long and getting back to somewhat normality, is really comforting.''

''It's reassuring also, mentally for me,'' he said. ''When you get hurt, you have these questions in your head obviously of, `Am I going to be the same when I come back? How am I going to respond?' Everything has really quickened.''
