Tom Glavine revealed a horrible Greg Maddux locker room prank
One of the funniest secrets in baseball that may escape the casual fan is that Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux was also a legendary locker room prankster.
"I call him 'The Silent Scumbag,'" former Padres teammate David Wells once said. "You would perceive him to be Einstein because he's quiet and he's always sitting there at his locker with a crossword puzzle. But he's got a silent sickness to him, sort of like David Cone. Those quiet guys are the ones you have to watch out for."
Maddux even referenced a fart prank during his induction speech: he thanked his older brother Mike for teaching him "a little bit about science... with a little methane and a lighter."
"All I can tell you is 'don't eat the chili.'" former Padres and Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said in 2008. "I can't go any further than that. [Maddux put] foreign objects in the chili."
With that backdrop, here's what former Atlanta Braves teammate and Hall of Fame classmate Tom Glavine revealed Thursday morning to CBS Boston's Toucher and Rich (audio available here starting at 7:05):
"He's the same dirtbag he's always been," Braves teammate Chipper Jones once remarked. "He's one of the grossest guys I've ever been around in my life."
"Unfortunately, you can't write half of the stuff he did, because he wasn't proper," Glavine said previously.
We're glad Glavine opened up a bit, but it's kind of scary what lies in the other half of the Dark Book of Maddux.
