Tigers call up reliever Bobby Parnell from minors
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) The Detroit Tigers have purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Bobby Parnell from Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers announced the move Wednesday as they put right-hander Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. Parnell, who signed a minor league deal with the Tigers in February, had four saves and a 3.98 ERA in 21 appearances with Toledo.
The 31-year-old Parnell made 329 major league appearances from 2008-15, all with the New York Mets. He had 22 saves for the Mets in 2013 but he was limited to one appearance the following season because of an elbow injury. He went 2-4 with a 6.38 ERA in 24 innings last year.
To make room for Parnell on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated right-hander Jose Valdez for assignment.
