Tigers' Cabrera has Ruth-like numbers against Indians
It's no secret that Miguel Cabrera owns the Cleveland Indians.
But here's a crazy thought: The Tigers slugger is actually hitting better than Babe Ruth against the Tribe.
Since joining the Tigers in 2008, Cabrera is hitting .364 with a .435 on-base percentage, 40 home runs and 127 RBI in 139 games against the Indians.
Ruth had a .354 batting average, on-base percentage of .507 with 92 home runs and 278 RBI in 361 games against Cleveland.
From the Akron Beacon Journal:
"Ruth drew more walks but Cabrera has the slight edge in batting average. Cabrera also has been more productive, as he's hit a home run against the Indians every 3.47 games -- Ruth hit one every 3.92 games. Cabrera has .91 RBI per game. Ruth is at .77 RBI per game. (It should be noted, though, that RBI statistics before 1920 are disputed.)
Still, Cabrera has done damage to the Indians, in many ways, at greater rates than Ruth."
Cabrera's .647 batting average is the highest of any player against any one team during a single season with at least 30 at-bats, according to stats from MLB.com.
So how do you get a guy like Cabrera out?
"You're asking the wrong guy," Indians ace and Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber told reporters after Sunday's game.
With 10 games remaining against the division rival Tigers, the Indians will have to work overtime in the film room if they hope to have any shot of figuring out how to beat big, bad Miggy.
