Texas Rangers: Good/Bad Offense Leading Into Last Series
The Texas Rangers are gearing up to play their last series of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. There are some very obvious performers who are doing well at the plate and some performers who need to pick things up during this last series while they get ready for the playoffs.
Now I went ahead and digested the offensive stats for the Texas Rangers over the past week and everyone that is featured in this articled has played in 5 games during that time. With the regular players there are 3 that have been performing quite well and 3 whose struggles have been overshadowed.
We will start with the good, there is very little surprise that Elvis Andrus is leading this group given his career year. Here are the total stats from who I believe have been the top 3 performers for the Rangers over the past 7 days:
Andrus has been the best player for the Rangers this year when there are players in scoring position and he continues to provide that offense for the Rangers. The day after the Rangers clinched the division last week he was the only veteran in the lineup and provided all of the offense with his first multi-homer game in his career.

El Capitan Adrian Beltre is in his usual zone and looks to be having the most fan as he ever has as of late with his playful antics. It is believed that he and Carlos Beltran are the best players without a World Series ring and they are looking to change that this year.
There isn’t words to describe what Carlos Gomez is doing for this team in the leadoff position while he has undoubtedly been the best leadoff hitter in baseball over the month of September. It will be interesting to see what the possible return of Shin-Soo Choo will do to his playing time. Hard to believe GM Jeff Banister will sit him.
Now to give you the bad performances as of late, and they are by big time names for the Texas Rangers this season. Once again, all of these players have played in 5 games over the past 7 days and will look to improve their performances over this past series.
These players have been big time contributors for the Texas Rangers 2016 at the plate. It is a little concerning but there are some positives going into the last series of the season for them.
Mitch Moreland has always been known as a streaky player and the hope from fans is that he is just getting the bad streak out right in time to start a good one for the playoffs. Moreland could really do himself well for his 2017 season and beyond as he will be a free agent. If he is able to but together some hits then he could be in a similar situation as the Mets Daniel Murphy was in last year.
Roughed Odor is still a young player and of course it is obvious that his discipline at the plate needs work since he rarely sees double-digit pitches during a full game. A positive for him is that he belted a 2 run homer just a couple of days ago and that ended an 0-22 at bat drought for him. Sometimes it is as easy as one hit that changes the game for a player, the best thing about Rougie is that he doesn’t let his struggles at the plate carry into the field.
Ian Desmond is a veteran of the game and his recent struggles could just be from fatigue given that he has played in 3 more games than any other Ranger this year. I believe that he will be just fine and get things together for when they matter the most in the playoffs.
