Syndergaard has Giants hitless through 5 in wild-card game

NEW YORK (AP) The Mets' Noah Syndergaard has held the San Francisco Giants hitless through five innings Wednesday night in the NL wild-card game, which is tied 0-0.

Syndergaard struck out eight and walked two, throwing 71 pitches.

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner allowed a pair of singles through four innings. Rene Rivera was erased on James Loney's double-play grounder after his leadoff hit in the third, and Asdrubal Cabrera was stranded after his one-out single in the fourth. Bumgarner threw 49 pitches in the first four innings, including seven in each of the first three.

The winner opens the NL Division Series on Friday at the Chicago Cubs.
